Rooted for Greater: Why Your Next Level Requires Deeper Roots

October is a season of transition. The air shifts, routines change, and nature begins to show us something powerful: before growth is visible, there is often important work happening beneath the surface.

The same is true in leadership, coaching, and purpose.

We often pray for greater influence, greater impact, greater opportunities, and greater reach. But greater requires more than visibility. It requires depth.

For Christian coaches and leaders, being rooted means being anchored in something stronger than trends, titles, applause, or momentum. It means being grounded in faith, character, discipline, wisdom, and obedience to God.

A tree with shallow roots may look healthy for a season, but pressure reveals its foundation. Strong winds expose what cannot be seen from the outside. In the same way, leadership pressure reveals what has truly been developed within us.

That is why this season of VACC’s Grounded Series carries the theme:

Rooted for Greater

Deep Roots. Clear Purpose. Greater Impact.

Before God expands our influence, He often deepens our foundation. Sometimes that deepening looks like slowing down enough to hear clearly. Sometimes it means strengthening our boundaries. Sometimes it requires healing, accountability, additional training, or simply becoming more consistent in the things we already know we are called to do.

Growth is not always about doing more. Sometimes growth is becoming more rooted in who you are, what you believe, and why you were called.

Deep Roots Create Stability

As coaches, we spend a great deal of time helping others navigate change, overcome obstacles, and move toward their goals. But we also need spaces where we can strengthen our own foundation.

Who pours into the coach?

Who challenges the leader?

Who reminds the person carrying everyone else’s vision to remain connected to their own?

Community matters because healthy leadership was never designed to happen in isolation.

Being rooted in faith reminds us that our identity is not based on how many clients we have, how large our platform becomes, or how quickly our businesses grow. Our value was established before any accomplishment.

Clear Purpose Creates Direction

When you are rooted, you do not have to chase every opportunity.

You become more discerning about what aligns with your assignment.

Clear purpose gives you permission to say yes with confidence and no without guilt. It helps you distinguish between something that is simply good and something that is actually yours to carry.

As Christian coaches and leaders, clarity is essential because influence without direction can become distraction.

Ask yourself this month:

What am I building—and what is it rooted in?

That question can reveal whether we are growing from conviction or comparison, purpose or pressure, obedience or ambition.

Greater Impact Begins Within

The greatest impact we make will not always be measured by numbers.

Sometimes impact is one conversation that changes someone’s perspective.

Sometimes it is helping a client believe again.

Sometimes it is mentoring another coach, leading with integrity when no one is watching, or creating a space where someone finally feels safe enough to be honest.

Greater impact begins with becoming the kind of person who can faithfully carry greater responsibility.

So this October, resist the temptation to measure growth only by what is visible.

Pay attention to your roots.

Strengthen your faith.Protect your character.Clarify your purpose.Invest in community.Keep growing.

Because when your roots go deeper, you become better prepared for everything God is calling you to build above ground.

Stay Rooted. Keep Growing. Go Greater.
