Holding Space: The Ministry of Listening and Presence

Preparing Our Hearts for the Next Grounded Gathering

In a culture driven by noise, speed, and constant reaction, one of the most countercultural acts of leadership is simple:

Listening.

Not listening to respond. Not listening to correct. Not listening to fix.But listening to understand.

As Christian coaches, entrepreneurs, ministers, and marketplace leaders, we are often the ones people come to for answers. We are trained to advise, guide, strategize, and solve. But sometimes, the most powerful ministry we offer is not direction — it is presence.

🕊️ The Power of Being Present

Holding space means creating a safe emotional and spiritual environment where someone can process without fear of judgment, interruption, or dismissal.

It looks like:

  • Letting someone finish their thought without cutting them off

  • Sitting in silence when words are not necessary

  • Allowing tears without rushing toward resolution

  • Responding with empathy before offering advice

Jesus modeled this repeatedly. He asked questions. He paused. He allowed people to speak their pain before He addressed it. His presence alone often brought comfort before any miracle occurred.

Presence is not passive. It is intentional love.

💜 Why This Matters for Leaders

As leaders, especially faith-driven ones, we must remember:

You are not called to fix everyone. You are called to steward people well.

When we fail to hold space, we can unintentionally:

  • Minimize someone’s experience

  • Over-spiritualize their pain

  • Rush their healing process

  • Center ourselves instead of serving them

But when we listen well, we reflect the patience and compassion of Christ.

And here’s the deeper truth:Sometimes we struggle to hold space for others because we have not learned how to hold space for ourselves.

🌿 Preparing for Grounded

At our next Grounded gathering, we will explore:

  • Emotional maturity in leadership

  • The discipline of active listening

  • Self-regulation in high-stress conversations

  • How to create psychologically safe spaces as a Christian coach or entrepreneur

  • When to speak — and when silence is the greater strategy

This session is not about techniques alone. It’s about posture. It’s about becoming leaders whose presence feels safe, steady, and Spirit-led.

A Gentle Challenge Before We Gather

This week, consider:

  • Who in my life needs my presence more than my advice?

  • Do I interrupt because I’m uncomfortable with emotion?

  • When was the last time I allowed someone to fully process without redirecting them?

Let this month be one where we slow down.

Because sometimes the most anointed thing you can do is not preach, not correct, not advise — But stay.
